Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What kind of services do you offer?

We offer unique personal and workplace safety and self-defense training programs for contact professionals in Real Estate, Healthcare, Education and Corporations. Additionally, we provide safety assessments and consulting around safety policies and procedures for organizations.

If these categories don’t quite fit you, please reach out so we can learn more and customize a program that’s right for your team.

Q: How can I train with you?

Thanks for asking! The best way to train with us is to bring us in to your organization for a customized training event. Not a decision maker? No problem! Connect us with the HR or Program director, training manager or benefits specialist, and we’ll take it from there.

Q: Where are you located? Where is your school or studio?

We don’t have any schools or studios. Jarrett is based in Los Angeles, and Jennie is based in Austin. We serve both cities and beyond, traveling (globally!) to teach our self-defense and safety events at our clients’ location, and bringing all necessary equipment with us.

Q: When are you coming to my area?

We go where we’re booked! If you’re interested in bringing us to your organization or location, we’d love to speak with you.

Q: How many people can you train at one time? What group size can you accommodate?

We work with organizations of all sizes and can fully customize a training event for you and your community. Contact us to schedule a call so that we can learn more about your safety needs.

Q: How much do you charge for a workshop?

The investment for each event reflects the unique needs and factors of each organization. We’d be happy to provide a customized quote after a quick call to learn more about your group and the type of training event you’re envisioning.

Q: Do you offer presentations, lectures and speeches without any physical training?

Yes, we offer interactive, non-physical presentations along with conference and keynote lectures. Contact us to schedule a quick phone call so that we can learn more about your needs.

Q: Do I have to be really fit to train in self-defense? Is there an age limit? What if I have an injury or disability? Do I need prior training experience?

Our training events are for EVERYONE. And when we say “EVERYONE,” we mean it. Safe, trauma-informed training that is inclusive, adaptable and applicable to all ages, experience and fitness levels (the majority of our students have little or zero prior self-defense experience), and physical abilities is the cornerstone of our programs — and one of the major ways in which we stand out in this industry. We offer modifications for any physical activities that don't work for your body and/or mind, and you're always welcome, if you choose, to opt out of any part of the event shame-, blame- and pressure-free.

Q: How long does it take to learn self-defense? Will I really learn anything in a one-time class?

Great question! The short answer: yes, you will learn valuable skills in a one-time class. Will you become a master/black belt/expert/Ninja/Navy SEAL/UFC fighter capable of taking down organized crime lords in one class? Decidedly, no. Ultimately, the length of time we recommend you commit to learning self-defense depends entirely on your goals. Click the link above to read more about why we believe whole-heartedly in the power of one-time workshops and training events.

Q: Do you have any video or online courses?

At the moment, we do not have any online courses, but this is definitely on our to-do list. Please check back! We do offer an instructional DVD for parents, guardians, childcare givers and grade-school educators.

Q: Where can I learn self-defense in my area? How do I find an instructor near me?

We have identified some of our most trusted self-defense schools, gyms and studios on our Resources page. And if you haven’t already, check out this article we wrote on how to find a self-defense school near you that best fits your wants and needs.

Q: I tried a self-defense class once and it was terrible. How is what you do different?

We’re really sorry that you had that experience. If you’re still interested in learning personal safety and self-defense skills, we encourage you to continue to look for a class that meets your wants and needs. There is no “one size fits all” training modality, system or teaching style but here are some of the key ways in which what we teach and how we teach are different.

Q: What is the most effective self-defense system? I learned a different technique or style -- which is better?

There’s value to be gained from almost all systems. The most effective system for you and your team ultimately depends on your goals and resources. Getting clear on the main differences between reality-based self-defense, martial arts and combat sports is a great starting place, as is reviewing the important pillars of reputable self-defense systems.

Q: What is Krav Maga? Is that what you teach?

Krav Maga is a reality-based self-defense system that originated in Israel in the 1940s. It was created for the Israeli Defense Forces as a hand-to-hand combat system for soldiers and later adapted for use by civilians. It is widely considered one of the most effective systems of self-defense in the world, known for simple, straight-forward techniques aimed at creating space quickly and designed to work in spite of gender, height and weight differences.

The physical techniques that we teach are Krav Maga-based, but our comprehensive curriculum pulls from decades of learning, training in and teaching many different styles, systems and academic/professional protocols — including our own personal safety and boundary-setting experiences as everyday women.
